BBI propaganda workers weave the final lies into the party manifesto
(shouldn't this read "lines?" editor)
Just a day to go, and for those who like cliffhangers, the BBI came up with a last hurrah by way of a few promises to voters.
A local leaflet flopped through our door – and unlike the last one which listed what the party laughingly calls its “achievements” this effort listed five items under the heading “What BBI will do for you.”
Don’t forget, due either to an inflated sense of self-importance or an effort to save ink, the BBI now eschews the definite article and refers to itself solely as BBI.
So, what is BBI going to do for us?
To quote Paul Daniels once again … “not a lot.”
“Move to the next stage to get a by-pass/distributor road for Boston.” This will apparently be achieved by working with developers and the county council. If you remember, it involves identifying a patchwork route around the town, with developers providing the land for the eventual road as a condition of permission. This is fine, so long as there is land available which follows some kind of viable route – which we doubt. It’s also a good 20 years in the future.
“Work to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.” According to the BBI propaganda, the party has already all but stamped out crime in the borough – so this shouldn’t take long.
“Make the borough a better place to live.” This will be done by “improving the appearance of the town centre using money from English Heritage and Europe.” We seem to recall that the lion’s share of this has already been done and dusted, and the Market Place improvements are due to start in July. Presumably, we then all go and live in the Market Place …. watch out for the buses!
“Continue to improve the cleanliness of the streets.” Starting to clean the streets in many areas of the town would be a good idea – then it would be possible to continue.
“Keep council tax as low as possible.” Any party will have little choice about the level of council tax for the next few years – and we are sure that it will be maintained at a low level by government diktat. What we do know is that the BBI’s grandstanding over its zero council tax increases left the borough with a financial black hole that we are still trying to crawl out of.
Meanwhile, the BBI has got itself into a hole of a different kind following critical remarks about the English Democrats on its irrepressible tedious blogsite – which we hear have now been amended after warnings of possible legal action.
We understand that the BBI leader Richard Austin proved elusive when the English Democrats tried to discuss the blog with him, and it took a hand delivered letter to get a result.
Having said that, we doubt that Councillor Austin is the author of the piece in question – although as the leader of the party the buck stops with him.
Colin Mair, Lincolnshire Organiser for the English Democrats, told Boston Eye
“I would have expected a lot better from the leader of a borough council! This campaign should be about what can be done for Boston and the people who live there. We, like it or not, have a large population of new immigrants … Now of course we have to build bridges with the new community while at the same time working out how to get our own local people back to work. There are several very positive and workable ideas how this can be done, none of them coming from the other parties. Good luck to all on Thursday and I hope Boston Borough Council gets the team it deserves. It’s time to inject energy and ideas into the town!”
Meanwhile, the item on the blog has been up and down the column like a yo-yo to try to make it look as though it hasn’t been altered at all.
As Blackadder once said it’s “as clever as a stick in a bucket of pig swill.”

A leflet through our door claimed that former BNP candidates are standing as EDP candidates in Skirbeck and naturally the gloves came off what seemed to be an inflamatory bit of propaganda on behalf of the BBI.
I checked the list and according to that only one ex BNP was standing and it isnt in Skirbeck, its in central Boston.
Tsk tsk BBI...
